Studio Mozaik is a radio production and training studio dedicated to basic and continuous training in radio journalism in Côte d’Ivoire. The training offered covers basic principles and techniques that allow journalists to work in a professional, impartial and responsible way.
Production and Broadcasting
Programmes produced during training allow the trainees to put into practice what they have learned. They are posted online for FM broadcast by partner radios. These programmes cover Ivorian news and pay special attention to events linked to national reconciliation, social cohesion, human rights, cultural diversity and strengthening of Ivorian civil society.
Studio Mozaik aims through its training and programme production to:
- Contribute to dialogue and reconciliation in Côte d'Ivoire by giving people access to news and information programmes and dialogue with Ivorian civil society
- Help make Ivorian media more professional by offering innovative training for young people and journalists from local radios

The Studio Mozaik team is made up of a Director General, a technician, an administrator, freelance trainers and journalists, plus some support staff and occasional consultants. After helping in 2014 and 2015 to launch Studio Mozaik and set the training curriculum and radio formats, Fondation Hirondelle continues in 2016 to support Studio Mozaik so that it can become a lasting factor in the Ivorian media scene. Fondation Hirondelle is therefore supporting the Studio Mozaik management in its efforts to implement a sustainability strategy, which includes developing activities and services for local operators.
Fondation Hirondelle contributed 100,000 Swiss francs to funding Studio Mozaik operations in 2016, and supports Studio Mozaik in its quest for new donors and partners.
After a June 2011 exploratory mission to Abidjan in the wake of the violent post-election crisis, Fondation Hirondelle was contacted in 2012 by the Ivorian organization Fondation Dr Peter Graze. This is an association set up by Ivorian media professionals and supported by Culture Counts, a German organization which set up training workshops in Côte d’Ivoire. These two organizations asked Fondation Hirondelle to help create a radio station that would contribute to peace and national reconciliation. This project was drawn up in early 2013 and named “Mozaik FM” to highlight the richness and diversity of Ivorian culture and peoples. In spring 2013, a first phase of the project was designed in the form of a training studio, in response to a European Union call for proposals. The “Studio Mozaik“ project submitted to the EU by Culture Counts and Fondation Dr. Peter Graze-Côte d’Ivoire with Fondation Hirondelle expertise, was launched in 2014. After European Union project funding ended in December 2015, Studio Mozaik is continuing its activities in Côte d’Ivoire in 2016, as part of a transition phase that should help it find new sources of funding.
Why “Studio Mozaik” ?
Because Côte d'Ivoire is a mosaic of peoples, cultures, opinions, landscapes and above all cultural diversity, which constitutes a real source of richness and a real plus to overcome division and opposition.
It should be the cement with which to rebuild national unity, rather than a source of division.
“Mozaik”, spelled phonetically to be simple and direct, like its programmes.
