2025 marks a significant milestone for our organization: Fondation Hirondelle celebrates 30 years of commitment to providing independent, impartial, and accessible information for all.
The field of media support and the importance of information serving citizens emerged with the changes brought by the fall of the Berlin Wall and the vision of a multipolar world embracing universal values. Human rights, peace, and justice were seen as achievable goals, supported by independent, public-interest media. In 2025, these commitments are more critical than ever. Competing visions of freedom of expression and the integrity of information are being challenged by numerous actors. Fondation Hirondelle reaffirms its principles of independence, fact-based reporting, and fostering dialogue.
Our new 2025-2028 strategy is built on these foundations and will guide us through a year full of events and new projects.
We are proud to announce the launch of our new website, designed to reflect our mission and make our content more accessible. You can explore detailed information about our operations, areas of expertise, videos, updated impact results, and resources to better understand our fieldwork. Feel free to dive in and explore it!
The year will also start with our presence at the Summit for Action on Artificial Intelligence in Paris, where we will be presenting our project using AI to counter misinformation and hate speech in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
Throughout this anniversary year, we are organizing a series of events to celebrate our commitment and share the stories that have shaped these three decades. Highlights include:
- A photo exhibition at the Geneva Book Fair in March 2025
- Conferences and debates on the role of media in peacebuilding in Geneva, Lausanne, Lugano, and Bern.
