From 2020 to 2023, Fondation Hirondelle carried out projects in support of its partner Tribal News Network (TNN) and local media in Pakistan.
As part of its response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Fondation Hirondelle provided support to the TNN media group and its network of 6 partner radio stations in Northwest Pakistan from 2020 to 2022. This support helped to counter the spread of rumours and fake news by providing public service information to the population.
The project was successively funded by SDC and Swiss Solidarity, a Swiss humanitarian aid organisation, and enabled TNN to carry out a series of ambitious projects in a highly unstable and fragile environment. These projects included the mentoring and coaching of young TNN journalists by senior journalists; producing and broadcasting reliable programmes and news about the pandemic and its many effects; and psychological support sessions for TNN reporters and correspondents.

From summer 2022 to April 2023, Fondation Hirondelle renewed its support for TNN and 30 on- and offline media outlets in response to the humanitarian crisis caused by flooding after a particularly violent monsoon.
This project also received funding from the humanitarian organisation network H2H Network. It helped train 70 journalists to respond to natural disasters and humanitarian crises in several regions of the country. It also made it possible to produce public service and public interest news vital to the population in local languages, thereby reaching the widest possible audience. Particular attention was paid to vulnerable groups such as internally displaced people, women, and the elderly. The project also fostered communication and collaboration between news professionals, humanitarian actors, and affected populations. Project term: 1 year
