Kamal Redouani – War Reporting

Journalism in conflict zones stirs the imagination. Kamal Redouani, a senior correspondent, works in countries at war. Far from clichés, he explains his approach and reminds us of the risks of this demanding job for those who are not prepared for it.

Kamal Redouani is a senior correspondent and regularly collaborates with France 2, Canal+, Arte…. Born in 1968 in Casablanca, he is a specialist in Arab countries, which he has covered since 2005, despite the war. As he says himself: “It’s the war that came to my land“. The journalist is the author of numerous documentaries created on the basis of a network of acquaintances and friendships built on a trust established over time.

In 2014, he received the Rising Star Award at the Canada International Film Festival for his film “Islam contre Islam : enquête sur une nouvelle guerre“, broadcast by Canal+. Two years later, he was nominated for the Golden Nymphs at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival for his film “Libya, la charia aux portes de l’Europe“, broadcast by France 2.

In 2017, his documentary “L’origine de la terreur“, broadcast by France 2, is nominated for the Barcelona Planet Film Festival, the Geneva International Film Festival and Roma Cinema Doc 2017. His book “Inside Daech” (Arthaud, 2017) received the Grand Témoin 2017 award.

In 2018, Kamal Rédouani has published another book, “Dans le cerveau du monstre“, published by Flammarion. The documentary by the same name is broadcast on France 5, RTBF, NHK and Radio Canada. Selected at the 2018 Montreal World Film Festival, he receives the 2018 Lauriers de L’audiovisuel in Paris in the category of Senior Correspondents.

His latest film “Djihadistes Français : la part du monstre” is another feat. An informer from the European intelligence services entrusted him with the GPS coordinates of where French jihadists live in Syria. The investigation allows him to recover from other sources revealing information on the itinerary of the European jihadists: internal documents of the Caliphate, videos filmed by Daech, intended for internal use. In a country in shambles, the evidence left by Western jihadists disappears. And without evidence, there can be no justice… Released in 2019 “Djihadistes Français : la part du monstre” was broadcast on France 5 and RTBF. It was nominated for the Rockie Awards.

Kamal Redouani lives since 2012 between France and the zone of influence of the Islamist Caliphate Daesh.
